PSP Downgrade Method (Works!)

Hi.

I have spent a few weeks examining all of the PSP's security measures, I have found a hole in one of them which was enough for me to develop a boot hack. I have only tested this with the European Firmware version 2.00. But i think it will work with any PSP using firmware 1.5x - 2.00. If you are unsuccessful in preforming this hack, the PSP will NOT lock up like it does with most fake hacks.

When you start a normal PSP running Firmware 2.00, and put a mem stick in with the same version but as an EBOOT file, it will simply say that "system software is version 2.00. There is no need to update". This hack will get you past that stage, and allow you to load the actual Firmware EBOOT file. This hack requires 2 mem-sticks. When the EBOOT has started, it will give you the option to install the Firmware, with no errors in the way!! This is accomplished by using a hacked EBOOT. The PSP will recognise this hacked EBOOT as "System Software ver. 3.00. I have uploaded a video of it working now. But this hack will not be released until i am sure it will not brick your PSP! Im downloading the vid. I don't have my hopes up though, cus as stated above, there has been alot of claims like this in the past few weeks, and i about have givin up.

EDIT: I just don't think i like the idea of havin my PSP think its a 3.00, but i gues if i don't intend on upgradin it, i guess it wouldn't matter

I'm just downloading the video, it's very slow.

You claim to have sucessfully downgraded a machine, which is a pretty big claim, but we shall see.

I won't make any real/BS comments until I have seen the video, or, better still, tried out the eboot.

can someone who's downloaded this, or even troy host this somewhere else so i can see it please?

If you have a working downgrader, why does your video not showing a working downgrade? Is that *really* too much to ask?

Secondly, after the memory stick swap, the update that loads is the 2.0 updater... why not the 1.5? Surely that's the point of the exercise?

He then swaps the MS to one with the 2.0 update to get past security checks.

Maybe at the "insert AC..." you can swap to a 1.5 update?

Its pathetically easy to change an update version and update title without corrupting the update, at least up until its launched and the update starts

If you say you have a working downgrader, you should either release a video showing the PSP being downgraded or else keep quiet and release a working tool.

You don't see Humma.Kavula releasing bogus videos...

I vote for release now with a warning. You have no way of knowing for sure that it will not brick any psp's anyway.

Ok i've watched the video, but i'm confused as to what exactly this proves?

On the one hand I wouldn't say it's scam because he didn't ask for donation, on the other hand I'm sick of watching videos proving nothing.

If you don't want to stay in the middle of a big flame war (just look at all the downgrader threads here) I would apologize not to release anything (no video, no announcement, ...) until it's finished.

This video is not a video of an actual downgrade in progress. It is a video of the reinstallation of the 2.00 firmware :). I have not yet managed to get past the reinstallation screen. But it is a start. Usually the psp will not let you into that screen if you've already updated to that firmware version. I have only recently began to actually create the downgrader, so don't expect a downgrade to 1.0 or 1.50 in the next day ;).

In this case the title of your topic is highly confusing because you say it's working...
Many people have managed to start the update but nobody was succesful in performing the downgrade at all.
So you're in the same stage like Seargent007 or wab. How do you plan to hack the AES encryption - I guess you've got no idea...

Hey the vid is good, the thing thats interesting is that he boots an update making the PSP think its 3.00 then while its loading places in a mem stick wiv the 2.00 update on, he has a 2.00 PSP btw. But the thing is it will allow to install, now that tells us that something about the 2.00 is different to the 1.50, something has been done different, otherwise we could just swap the mem stick for one with 1.50 on... mmmm. :confused:

Came up wiv an idea, how about using the 2.00 PARAM.SFO with the DATA.PSP and DATA.PSAR from 1.50, see what happens, place this eboot on the 2nd mem stick, gona try it now.

But did you make your own ELF?
Becuase using sony's 1.50 Upgrade won't work unless you make a newer version/elf.
I Congrat you on this and i am awaiting the downgrader video.
But like all mean's PSP-DEV have stopped the downgrading and
thier probally going to look for a exploit instead.
But anyway i hope this is the truth because whenever a downgrader

i got an error saying corrupt file, so i tried this.

First mem stick an edited 2.00 to show 2.50, then on the second mem stick, placed the orginal 1.50, booted swapped, and it came up Update Version 1.50 along the top and in the center but no start button then about 3 seconds later it says about that this update is old blah blah blah.


Just tried using 3 mem sticks, 1st with an edited 2.00 to seem like 2.50, then 2nd has the original 2.00, then press ok to start it and it says that you need the AC adapter in or that the battery is low at this point i tried putting in the 3rd mem stick with 1.50 on but it found i removed the mem card, we need TeamXecuters mod so that we can remove the mem card without it realising.

its so close i have no debut that there will be a downgrader by the end of this month its just a matter of tricking the psp lol ;)

and have you tried to do it for 1.50?

Im just uploading the video now, but i dare try i press start, but then it says about the AC adapter being in, but im too scared to go further, if it does downgrade to 1.52, perhaps you can then go to 1.51, then 1.5, like a gradual downgrade.
